Central Avenue Boulevard
This pedestrian street, an extension to the east of the Paseo Colón, connects with the main tourist attractions and places of interest in the center such as the Central Market, the Plaza de la Cultura or the Jade Museum.
Central Market of San José
With 139 years of history, in this market, the cultural heritage of the Josefinos, you will be able to taste delicacies of the Tica gastronomy such as gallo pinto (traditional Costa Rican breakfast), a tamale, a chorreado coffee or a sorbet ice cream.
National Theater of Costa Rica
On the east side of Plaza Juan Mora Fernández is the most important architectural jewel of San José: The National Theater of Costa Rica. Museums of the Central Bank of Costa Rica and Plaza de la Cultura
In 1982 the Central Bank of Costa Rica inaugurated the Pre-Columbian Gold, Numismatic and Art Museums in a modern three-level underground building, located on the north side of the National Theater. And on the surface, he fitted out the Plaza de la Cultura, a 45 x 80 meter space for citizens to meet (its fountain and pottery were recently remodeled), which since then has become one of the most visited tourist sites in San José . The museums house gold pieces and archaeological samples of the indigenous cultures of Costa Rica, the Bank's collection of banknotes, coins and medals, and temporary exhibitions of visual arts. Museum of Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture
In 2014 the National Insurance Institute inaugurated the new and modern headquarters of the Museum of Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture, located on the west side of the Plaza de La Democracia with Avenida Central. In it you will be able to appreciate the world's largest collection of jade objects from Mesoamerican indigenous cultures, as well as archaeological pieces of ceramic, stone, bone, shell and gold. National Museum of Costa Rica and Plaza de La Democracia
The oldest museum in Costa Rica was created in 1887 and since 1950 it occupies its current headquarters, the old Bellavista Barracks, which passed into the hands of the museum when the army was abolished as an institution in December 1948. The museum has a butterfly garden , a pre-Columbian room, of gold and of national history, a colonial house and another of the commanders, the old cells of the barracks, rooms for temporary exhibitions and a specialized library. In front of the Museum is the Plaza de la Democracia y la Abolición del Ejército, with an area of 8,230 m², inaugurated in 1989 to commemorate the centennial of Costa Rican democracy. Ask about the guided tours and the Paseo de Los Museums ticket, which for a special rate of $ 31 for foreign visitors and ₡ 5,000 for nationals allows you to enter the 3 main museums in downtown San José on the same day (valid for two months) . Correos y Telégrafos e Costa Rica Building
This building, located in front of the Plaza Juan Rafael Mora (street 2 between avenues 1 and 3), was built between 1914 and 1917, with designs by the Spanish architect Luis Llach, and has been the historical and architectural heritage of San José since 1985. The headquarters of the Costa Rican Postal, Telegraphic and Philatelic Museum works there.
Metropolitan Cathedral of San José and Central Park
Located on the corner of Calle 0 and Avenida 2, it is the main Catholic temple in the city, built in a neoclassical style during two periods, 1825 - 1827 and 1878. In front of the Cathedral is the Central Park, the which is open 24 hours a day, and is a place to meet and rest
